On Friday 3rd March 2023 Carville Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 968 after nearly eight-four years of continuous working met for the last time, and the Warrant of the Lodge was handed for safekeeping to Bro Gareth Davies, Provincial Grand Chaplain and Provincial Grand Registrar, who attended as the representative of the Provincial Grand Master
The Worshipful Commander, W Bro Colin Willis, ProvRAMGR, also entrusted to Bro Davies’s safekeeping the only known remaining Founders’ Jewel, originally presented to one of the eight Founders of the Lodge at its Consecration on Thursday 18th May 1939.
This Founder’s Jewel was given in 1979 to the late W Bro George Umpleby, Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, and a member of Carville Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners for almost half a century. He, in like manner, donated it to the Lodge to be presented at the Festive Board to each Commander in turn on the night of his Installation.
There is a short presentation speech given at the Festive Board when the Worshipful Commander, is requested to wear this Jewel in the Lodge and at the Festive Board in memory of the eight Founders, and to transfer it to his successor when he, in his turn, is installed as Commander of the Lodge. With the hope that it will continue to adorn successive Commanders of the Lodge through the years until time with us shall be no more.
It is now displayed in the Mark Provincial Office as a fitting memory to the members past and present of Carville Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 968.
