Deputy PGM and his Team visit the Scottish Borders

On a warm Saturday afternoon on 16th August, a team of Mark Master Masons from the Province of Northumberland made the relatively short journey over the border into Scotland to the Tait Hall in Kelso. The group was led by our DeputyProvGM, V. W. Bro. Richard Northey. He was accompanied by V. W. Bro. John Tomlin and W. Bro. Dennis Beecroft our ProvGAlmoner, along with Bro. Gareth Davies our ProvGChaplain & Registrar and Bro. John Murray our DeputyProvGSecretary both of whom are also members of Lodge Kelso and Tweed No. 58.

A very warm and friendly welcome was given to us all by both the members of the Province of the Scottish Borders and its sister Provinces. The reason for the visit was to attend the Installation of Brother James Thom as Provincial Grand Master of the Provincial Grand Lodge of the Scottish Borders.

After Provincial Grand Lodge had been opened, the Depute Grand Master, Brother Alexander C. G. Moncrieff, and a Deputation of Officer-bearers from the Grand Lodge of Scotland were then received and welcomed. There then followed a superb ceremony of Installation during which Brother James Thom was invested and proclaimed as Provincial Grand Master. Following this, the Commissioned Office Bearers were then presented, obligated, invested and proclaimed.

The Depute Grand Master then addressed the Provincial Grand Master and Brethren, to which the Provincial Grand Master suitably replied.

We congratulate all who were appointed and invested and hope they have many happy and enjoyable years in office.

After the formalities of the meeting had concluded there followed an excellent Festive Board which featured a very enjoyable roast beef dinner. As always, this proved to be another marvellous day with old friends and new friends made.

Another wonderful day of Freemasonry, this time with our near neighbours in Scotland, which made the journey to Kelso well worth the effort!

The Great North Air Ambulance receives Grant from MBF

The Travelling Sceptre has found its way to the very far north of the Province to Berwick-upon-Tweed and now resides in the care of St Cuthbert’s Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 192.   It’s there to be won, but the Lodge only meets twice a year on the 1st Wednesday in May and October, and that’s the challenge.

The Travelling Gavel has left Whitley Bay and moved from the furthest east of the Province to the furthest west and is now in the possession of Hexham Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1141.   Perhaps it can now make its way to the far north to compete the Northumberland triangle.
