150 Years of Continuous Working

Hotspur with Coquetdale Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 135 Celebrate their 150th Anniversary of Continuous Working

Wednesday 19th Oct 2022 was a momentous day for the Hotspur with Coquetdale Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 135 as they celebrated their 150th Anniversary of continuous working. This event was later than it should have been due to previous COVID restrictions.

Hotspur Lodge was consecrated on 31st May 1871 at the Freemasons Hall Alnwick and was one of the very first Lodges to be consecrated after the formation of the new Mark Province of Northumberland and Durham in 1870.

In 2007 Hotspur merged with Coquetdale Mark Lodge to form the Lodge which operates today.

On the evening, the Lodge welcomed the PGM R. W. Bro Raymond Arthur Walton along with a full Provincial team. The Lodge was also honoured by the presence of the newly appointed Assistant Grand Master, R. W. Bro. Professor Denovan Keith Wilson who was accompanied by his Director of Ceremonies W. Bro. David Armstrong AGDC. After the Assistant Grand Master assumed the Master’s chair he presented the Worshipful Master, V. W. Bro. Stuart Cairns PGJO, with the Sesquicentennial Warrant.

This was followed by the Oration, Service of Thanksgiving and Benediction, which was delivered by our Provincial Grand Chaplain Bro Gareth Davies.

After the Lodge was closed, we were all treated to a wonderful meal which was followed by a very convivial evening. I’m sure that everyone who attended this very special occasion had a fantastic time.

Congratulations go to Hotspur and Coquetdale Lodge of MMM for over 150 years of continuous working, long may you continue.

Many thanks also go to all who worked so hard to make it such a memorable occasion for us all and the same thanks to the catering staff at Alnwick Masonic Hall for the marvellous food and service.

Magic of the Mark

Northumberland and Berwick upon Tweed Lodge of  Royal Ark Mariners TI is the now current holder of the Travelling Sceptre from 3rd Ocober 2023

The Travelling Gavel has left Whitley Bay and moved from the furthest east of the Province to the furthest west and is now in the possession of Hexham Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1141.   Perhaps it can now make its way to the far north to compete the Northumberland triangle.
