Another landmark was commemorated in its long and distinguished history at Northumberland and Berwick upon Tweed Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners Time Immemorial on 25th January.
This was the occasion when it’s longest serving member, W. Bro. David Melvin, was presented with his 50-year certificate celebrating his years of service to the Royal Ark Mariner Degree in Northumberland by the Provincial Grand Master, R. W. Bro. Raymond Walton.
W. Bro. Ray was delighted to be able to present the certificate on behalf of M.W. Bro. His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, CGVO, Grand Master of the Ancient and Honourable Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariner.
Bro. David was elevated into RAM masonry on 23rd January 1974 and became Worshipful Commander in June 1981. This, incidentally, was the same year that he was installed as Master of Northumberland and Berwick upon Tweed Lodge of Mark Masters Time Immemorial. He must have been a very busy man that year. He eventually received the honour of RAMGR in December 1993.
Bro. David has remained active and continued to support the Lodge through the years and is currently the Chaplain, an office he has held since 2018.
After R. W. Bro Ray had presented the certificate to W. Bro. David, the PGM then thanked him for his many years of loyal and dedicated service to the RAM degree and he hoped that he would have many more years to enjoy the companionship and friendship of the Order.
Bro. David has had a long and illustrious career in Freemasonry and holds high office in many of the Orders in which he is a member, and we congratulate him on achieving this magnificent milestone.

The Travelling Sceptre, without the use of a Satnav, has found its way back to Whitley Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 788. It’s there to be rescued.
The Travelling Gavel has left Whitley Bay and moved from the furthest east of the Province to the furthest west and is now in the possession of Hexham Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1141. Perhaps it can now make its way to the far north to compete the Northumberland triangle.
