The nominated Charity for this evening was the ‘Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care’ charity.

This Charity specializes in providing free transport to and from the Freeman/RVI Hospitals for outpatients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment – some from as far as the Scottish Borders, North Yorkshire and West Cumbria.

The service involves collecting and transporting patients in a safe and comfortable environment from where they are living to where they will be having their treatment. If required, a volunteer will stay with the patient during their chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. The patient is then returned to their home in readiness for their next course of treatment.

Some patients require a more tailored service; some need palliative care, others have illnesses at a more advanced stage that require greater attentiveness. The Charity is there to help.

Some 60,000+ cancer patient journeys are completed each year with a passionate team of over 400 volunteers and a fleet of over 40 ambulances.

All in all, a fantastic local charity to support.

The night went very well and our PGM R.W. Bro Raymond Walton, along with W. Bros. Tom Grey, Graham Rowley and Alex Finlay, were delighted to be able to present a cheque for £750 to the Charity.
