R.W. Bro. Raymond Walton, the Prov. Grand Master, attended Tristram Mark Lodge No. 346 on Tuesday 12th December to present certificates commemorating 60 years of membership of the Mark Degree to Bro. Stanley Gabriel Ashman P.Prov.G.S.D.
Bro. Stan was initiated into Freemasonry on 14th December 1959 in the Newcastle Upon Tyne Royal Grammar School Lodge No. 7463 and is the longest serving Past Master in the Lodge. He has occupied the Master’s chair on three separate occasions in 1968, 1996 and 2005 and was appointed as Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 1979. This was followed in 2006 by appointment in Grand Lodge to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. He was advanced into Tristram Mark Lodge No. 346 on 10th December 1963 and is the Lodge’s longest serving member. He did not progress to the Master’s chair, his attendance being somewhat intermittent.
This was largely due to the fact that the Lodge meets on the second Tuesday which usually follows the second Monday on which night the Royal Grammar School Lodge meets. Meetings on consecutive evenings are apparently not enthusiastically embraced by his wife Dorothy! When Bro. Stan was presented with his 50-year certificate by the then Prov. Grand Master R. W. Bro Gordon Craigs he was given a field promotion to PProvGSD.
We congratulate Bro. Stan for his 60-year membership of Mark Masonry and hope that he continues to enjoy the companionship of this wonderful degree.

The Travelling Sceptre, without the use of a Satnav, has found its way back to Whitley Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 788. It’s there to be rescued.
The Travelling Gavel has left Whitley Bay and moved from the furthest east of the Province to the furthest west and is now in the possession of Hexham Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1141. Perhaps it can now make its way to the far north to compete the Northumberland triangle.
